Social network and health status among Korean elders

|
In this study, we aimed to find answers to the following research questions: 1) How are the social network types of the Korean elderly classified? 2) How are the social network types of the Korean elderly and their health status are related? We analyzed raw data of the "2004 Living Profile and Welfare Service Needs of Older Persons in Korea," collected by KIHASA(Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs). We used the latent class analysis to find structural forms of the social network types of the Korean elderly. The results of the latent class analysis showed that the social network types were different by gender. Health status differed significantly among the social network types of the Korean elders. When we control for age, education and household income level, these differences disappeared among males but remained amogn female elders.
